Hurricane Irene, An Eye Wall View?!

As Hurricane Irene motors toward the OBX, the current forecast track appears to take the eye of the storm nearly directly over the islands! With a possible day time impact on Saturday we will see conditions deteriorate quickly as wind speed increases and rain/nasty weather fill in.  An interesting element will be the eye wall and whether we will see the eye pass over head.  Clearing skies and sunshine breaking in from the middle of the storm would be a surreal experience.  Not that I am looking forward to experiencing the northern eyewall, but as a natural event directly impacting this area, it will be both frightening and exhilarating.  Though likely best to leave the scenes of impact to the news media who will have personalities dramatically reporting "live" from a wind/rain blasted hotel balcony.

Time to fuel up the cars, stock up on some supplies, clear the decks of all small/loose stuff, and ensure we have a clean space to minimize flying debris.

PS:  hopefully, the storm forecast track takes it further east and away from the islands!

PPS:  Killer wavesailing possibly on tap for Thursday, hopefully at Coquina Beach!?!

Good luck this weekend Bill & co. I hope Irene doesn't pack a punch and spares the OBX.

I participated in an eye party in CT in 1985? when Gloria hit. Strong wind one way, then blue skies and sun, then stong wind the other way, all in under 10 minutes if I recall. It was just dumb "luck" as I was hunkering down at my apartment and winds weren't too severe. IRENE is looking really bad for the OBX. I hope some part of their forecast is wrong.

Good luck, Bill (and family)!

-Michael (preparing to board up my house for the first time in my life. I thought there was no such thing as too much wind.)
