4.2m Action at Izzy's!

I received the new wide-angle GoPro the other day, and welcomed it to the Hatteras Atlantic yesterday during a juiced 4.2m north wind session at Izzy's Inlet between Frisco and Hatteras Village. Unfortunately, my rechargeable batteries did not have a ton of juice so the video only shows the launch though the shorebreak. Nice view of the shorepound though from a wide-angle perspective!

Andy M, Olaf P, Keith M, and Niko I from Maryland joined in the fray. Conditions were near straight offshore with north wind at 30+ mph. Surf ranged from knee to chest high on the bigger sets. It was a wave racing session with lots of speed in the zone and a great setup for wave aerials! FWD loop ramps were also plentiful while heading out given the offshore wind. Water felt great in the mid-60 degree range while air temps hovered in the low to mid-50s. All in all, a fun oceanside session with some nice surf if you lined up the right swell.

Last night Andy M and Sailworld hosted the Hatteras Wave Jam LoopClinic 101. We had an excellent turnout for the clinic with plenty of future loopers amped to take the instruction, tips, tricks, and motivation to the water.

This weekend the Hatteras Wave Jam 2009, Jammer Fast 8 Race has been scheduled for Sunday afternoon, April 19, pending the SW afternoon forecast. If the forecast fizzles, Monday is the backup date (Monday's forecast calls for even stronger SW wind!). 3:00pm is race time with heat size/numbers dependent upon the number of registered participants available for the event. If you are interested in racing this weekend, be sure to check out the Hatteras Wave Jam web site for details and registration!

I like the initial charge. You really got a good first burst of acceleration.

Also, I'm riding legends too now... love em!

Yea! Too bad the batteries died when they did since I had a bunch of loops and I am curious how they look with the GP chest mount which I was using yesterday! Will definitely be prepared with "fresh" batteries for the next sesh!

Awesome on the Legends! Great sails!

Will be watching out for your first loops Aaron!

Gopro's dirty little secret - never leave batteries in it! It eats them at night too :)

More wave (shorebreak, etc) footage please!

My favorite part about this video is the blowing sand. Do you notice it just before I prepare the harness lines and lift the rig? Definitely showcases wind speed and direction, aka, nearly straight offshore!

fun time!
