2008 OBX Beach Life Photo Header of the Year - FINAL RESULTS!!

2008 was the year of Hatteras windsurfing photography. We had tons of awesome sessions captured on digital media in all formats including photo, video, and GoPro. The selection of photo headers this year totaled 72, and of those, 42 were chosen to be included in the voting rounds for the top pic. The heat entrants were determined by review and comment/suggestions from both local photographers and riders.

For this year, the viewer's choice 2008 OBX Beach Life Photo Header of the Year is....

This year's choice header ideally summarizes likely the best wave and wind event of the year; Tropical Storm Hanna (Aug 30 - Sept 7). From the ocean swell which arrived Labor Day weekend, through to the following weekend's windsurfing extravaganza (see search result of Hanna coverage), TS Hanna provided us with the best conditions Mother Nature could serve to the Outer Banks. A full summer-time week of waves and wind which provided warm tropical-like air/water and offered trunks-only refreshing time in the ocean. The closest to Maui, we experience in Hatteras!

The header photo showcases the big surf offered by TS Hanna and a moment above the lip of the breaking wave. Thanks to Keith McCulloch for the shot using George Markopoulos's camera, and Bill Bell for charging it late in the day at Lifeguard Beach in Buxton, during Day Two of wave sailing TS Hanna.
