How Many "Wings/Reefs!"

Reef II Grand Opening! Is Reef V just down the street? - click to enlargeTraveling down Hwy 158 its hard to not notice the large number of "super" beach stores lining the bypass. These bastions of beach cheeze are planted just about every mile from Kill Devil Hills though Nags Head. They go by names such as Reef, Wings, Sunsations, etc... and are found everywhere. What's up with that?! Literally in a one mile span of south Nags Head, there are over three of these stores all carrying the same stuff. Cheezy t-shirts and beach towels, coffee mugs, shot glasses, seashell "gifts," cheap beach umbrellas, foam this and that, fake samurai swords, etc, etc...all made in China. What is the draw to these places, and why does Nags Head need soooo many? Personally, I would much rather see a grocer such as Trader Joes within the same square footage space as one of these establishments.

Come on Town of Nags Head, your killing me here with your "town" planning/development?!

Is this a new one going up near Whalebone Junction, even though there are three others within the same mile span of Hwy 158?

This one's across from Windmill Pt. Guaranteed no windsurfing equipment, but if you need a 50 percent cotton beach towel with a confederate flag, eagle wings and a bikini babe holding a beer can designed on the front, this is the place!

Yet another carrying an assortment of your favorite blow up beach rafts. Did I mention this one is literally located about 150 yards north from the one above?!
