That Final 2007 Session

2007 OBX Beach Life Viewers' Choice Photo HeaderCharlie Myers caught the lip in perfect form on this Ocracoke wave, October 1, 2007. A great shot by Pete Lewando from a day which showcases some of the best wave sailing this year. Overwhelmingly voted the choice shot of 2007!
Great ride, great shot, great year!
2007 is a wrap on the OBX. We experienced awesome wind throughout most of the year, and though the summer surf was small as compared to 2005 and 2006, the number of SW sessions, at that sand bar just south of the beach "No Driving" signs near Salvo Ramp, provided many memorable moments on the water. The 2007 OBX wavesailing scene will be remembered from our first tropical visitor, TS Barry and the fun surf and wind he brought; though H Dean and TS Gabrielle; and wrapping with, of course, H Noel!

Along the way there were many fun, windy days, and a few surf sessions thrown in. I especially enjoyed this year overcoming the FWD loop commit hurdle, which I had since breaking my leg over-rotating a FWD endo in 1996. I am sure that many others also experienced memorable windsurfing moments this year, here on this spit of sand out in the Atlantic. Its definitely a phenomenal place!

Take a look back into 2007 using the Blog Posts Calendar, located at top right. View past posts throughout the year and remember those fun sessions whether you were there on the water, perhaps here but at a different spot, or simply wishing you were there. All in all, it was a great year for OBX windsurfing, and lets hope for a similar experience in 2008! Perhaps a few more summer waves in 2008 is what it will take to beat 2007.

Looks like wind is in the forecast for Jan 1, stay tuned?!
