Hatteras Beach Access and Watersports, Be Informed!

As noted in previous posts over the years, again beach access is heating up as a topic of debate on the OBX, as well as other locations around our windsurfing world.

This Friday, a special workshop is scheduled for watersports enthusiasts including surfers, windsurfers, and kiteboarders. The details are as follows:
When: Friday, April 30, 7:00pm
Where: Fessenden Center, Buxton
The latest proposal from the US Park Service could DRAMATICALLY impact the ability to enjoy the beaches of Hatteras Island from a watersports perspective. See Outer Banks Preservation Association for details.

Additionally, access issues are also alive in California. See and sign the petition regarding access at Lake Hodges near San Diego.

As for some Hatteras action where access in not yet an issue, I caught this GoPro still mid tweaked FWD loop during the showcase session last Monday. Yana missed this one in the still snaps (likely she was capturing Caleb at the lip of a sweet wave!), but it looked cool from the onboard perspective flying/looping over the surf zone!

The weekend forecast also looks great as another Hatteras Bermuda High sets up starting tomorrow, providing strong afternoon SW winds though next Tuesday!! Definitely, come on out and enjoy some warm windy weather on the islands!!

Bill, Let us know how that meeting goes (if you're attending). I went to the link but didn't see anything specific to watersports access issues....other than the usual closings info and other general news/updates.

Hey Mac,

I actually had the incorrect link. It has been updated in the post. It is actually the Outer Banks Preservation Association who is hosting the meeting tomorrow night.

Bill,
Thanks for the update. I watched the 59 minute video of the April 13th meeting. It was very informative and calls us to submit our comments on the draft environmental impact statement by the May 11th deadline. I highly recommend the video to learn how even howlies like me can participate and help.
