ORV Beach Driving Regulations (UPDATED)

Our ORVs out on the Beach at OcracokeCharles L submitted some information regarding proposed off-road vehicle (ORV) Regulations that are beginning the Negotiated Rulemaking policy dictated by the National Park Service (NPS). This is an important issue for continued future beach driving access privileges. We in the Hatteras windsurfing/wavesailing community are especially keen given that many spots are only accessible via 4WD vehicles. Access to prime wave breaks, our gear, and this time of year, warmth of a vehicle is quite important.
See the following NPS online workbook (note post comment from BOBXNC for how to download and open the file) for detail regarding options and submitting your input on the issue.

Thanks for the heads up.
NOTE to other readers. I had a problem opening the notebook. I finally got the notebook open using the following steps.
1.Right Click on the Notebook Link
2.Select "Save Link As"
3. Download file (I got one named savefile.cfm)
4. Rename file with the Adobe Acrobat extension (replace the .cfm with .pdf)
5 Open the file with Acrobat Reader.

Hope this help.

Thanks for adding this to your Blog. The link takes you to a lengthy survey with over 20 pages of questions. I think it is important to fill this out and send it back to the NPS. Remember they need your name and address, anonymous surveys are not counted. Especially important are questions 6.B.4 which asks if Kiteboarding should be banned from the oceanside across from resource closures, ie. no downwinding infront of the villages, turtle closures, etc. question 6.G.3 is another chance to get Kiteboarding banned from the Point and Spit area. Question 8.C.1 asks if we want to close kite point and just expand the parking lot at Canadian Hole. Out of about 100 questions concerning beach access at Cape Hatteras a few of them could pertain to us. Please look at this, fill it out and make your opinion count.

You can follow this issue in a number of places, http://www.reddrumtackle.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=7, http://www.obxconnection.com/forum/forum.asp?FID=10, http://fishmilitia.com/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=12, to name a few. You can also get information from

www.obpa.org

At present, the NPS plans to make the 80 (not 20) page workbook available as a word document that can be saved so you can work on it piecemeal. The word is they also plan to extend the deadline for submission to 2/15.

You can follow this at
