A Christmas Tropical Storm?!

UPDATE: her name is Olga!
Though she is not heading this way. Bummer!

Something is brewing east of Puerto Rico, and though upper level wind shear is high, there may still be a chance for some development. Perhaps the "tropical season" is not over yet?! For more detail, see Dr. Jeff Masters Tropical Report below.

May you have a string of 25 knot days around the 25th!

And if you don't, may I call your OBX attention to this video clip of Hatteras going off several years back. You're probably familiar with it.

Let the winds come!

Any thoughts on wind for this weekend? Dec 15 & 16

Definitely looks like potential for the weekend! Saturday, strong ESE and warm. Though Sunday looks like the air temps will fall like a rock into the 30s. However, water remains warm, especially on the south side...today the images are showing near 70+ degree water hitting Hatteras Inlet/Ocracoke!

Worst part may be the drive back north from the OBX on Sunday night, if there is freezing weather/ice on the major highways.

What are you complaining about Bill?
You don't have to drive back to DC like we do....
In any case, i'm game, think i'll leave early afternoon tomorrow to get gear ready for Saturday morning...

Hey EC,
Not complaining from my perspective, since I only have to drive north to Nags Head, but for anyone coming from DC/Richmond area or points further north (you and Charles), Sunday may be a painful drive home. Hopefully not!

Though yea, this weekend looks good for wind speed, though the models are all over the place for wind direction.
I hope this afternoon happens since it looks like there may be a swell out there today and it is quite warm out?!

see you here this weekend!

Bill- Come on down whether the wind fills in or not!! Billy and I had a great schlog fest yesterday at ego beach, looks to be the same but a little bigger waves today, better wind direction too! Can't beat 70 degrees and sunshine!

Yep, just got off the phone with Billy and Caleb and both are heading down. I am on call, so if the IWS meters begin to creep up, I will hop in the 4runner!

Perhaps bring my surfboard too!

Damn! Why does it have to get dark so early...!! IWS meters are right now reading mid-20mph SW wind!

Waited all day, nice outside swell in Nags Head, though waves somewhat disorganized, but no wind until after dark!

I am already looking forward to summer 2008 when sunset is closer to 9:00pm!
