Hatteras Wave Jam Jammer Fast 8 Racing!!
We successfully ran a day of Jammer Fast 8 Racing last night at Island Creek behind OceanAir in Avon. Winds were touching the 20mph minimum and we ran three heats. Donald O scored top in points for the day and currently leads in the Hatteras Wave Jam rankings!

More racing is on tap tonight pending the excellent IWS forecast! As an added incentive for the Jammer Fast 8 Racing, the top points scorer from the multi-day racing will win a new GoPro Wide-Angle Helmet Hero digital video camera!! If you have not signed up for the HWFS Hatteras Wave Jam, and you are in Avon this week, definitely join the fray and be in the running to rack up some points to win the new GoPro!!

Way to go donald!
Cool! What's Jammer Fast 8 Racing? It sounds like an interesting format.
Hey James,
Fast 8 Racing is a short track figure 8 race. Basically, its a test of jibe skill and stamina. Speed is not the key ingredient since the course is short, and there is not much time to gain speed before the next need to jibe.
Scoring include the finishing results, but also tricks during the heat including non-standard jibes, and even flat water loops!
Ideally, high wind 5.0 conditions are best to ensure everyone is on full plane on smaller kits. Wave, slalom, race gear...it all works in the Fast 8 format. Sunday's race heats had lighter wind than optimal (just barely made the 20 mph minimum), however, we had one moderately planing heat. Yesterday was ideal with strong SW wind, though I do not think there were any heats run.
All in all, Fast 8 Racing is a lot of fun, and its great because any kit will work, especially when conditions are juiced!
Wears you out too after 6 laps around the track, as your are forced to jibe quickly on both tacks!
