Lauren's Top Picks for Northern OBX Restaurants

As the April migration to the Outer Banks begin in search of wind, waves, sun, sand, and warmth...dining is also of importance, especially for those non-action sports significant others. Well here are Lauren's top restaurant picks for the northern/central OBX as of March 2007:

Overall Number 1: Red Sky Café (in Duck)

2 Kill Devil Grill (Kill Devil Hills)
3 Tortuga's Lie (Nags Head)

For specific dining choices:
carribean: Rundown Cafe & Tsunami Bar (Kitty Hawk)
steak: Prime Only (Nags Head)
burgers: Beach Road Grill (Nags Head)
crab cakes: Fat Boys (Nags Head)
pizza: Lucky 12 Tavern (Nags Head)
thai: Thai Room Restaurant (Kill Devil Hills)
all around: Outer Banks Brewing Station (Kill Devil Hills)

honorable mentions:
JKs Ribs (Kill Devil Hills)(haven't been in over a year though...)
Meridian 42 & Ocean Blvd (only tried each once so far)
heard good things about the Beach Bread Company in Kitty Hawk...but never had dinner there
Full Moon Cafe (Manteo)

heard good things about the Bad Bean in Corolla (never been)

when will Nags Head get a good Mexican restaurant????

We have not heard anything yet on FatBoyz though driving past it today, it looks like they are in the middle of a major exterior and perhaps interior remodeling.

Bill,

Blog looks great. The new banner image is awesome. I think your idea on local eats is a great one. I will link the post and I have been debating writing some of my own reviews on where to go.

A lot of communities are getting local bloggers together for sharing ideas - we have about 10 not including the Realtors on activerain. Would you be interested?

Curious, how you would rate Awful Arthur's (Kill Devil Hills) relative to the ones in your list.

Well, I have not been to Awful Arthur's in a long time, but I remember when I dated a server who worked there back in 1995 or 1996, she always told me that the raw bar is great but do not order anything from the kitchen?!

As comparison to Lauren's list, these places are the best based upon or experience and comments we have heard from local friends and family. All in all, its a pretty safe bet that if you check out one of the spots on her list, you will get an excellent meal, especially the "specials!"
