March Numbers and OBX ORV Decision Day

ORV DECISION UPDATE
April 5, 2008
The injunction decision to ban ORV and pedestrian traffic to OBX beaches while the National Park Service drafts a formal plan has been delayed with no formal date set for re-review at this time. See the report from the Outer Banks Sentinel.

Looks like access to our beaches continues...

March has been an excellent month for windsurfing on the OBX! We have had a number of windy days. Most I caught, but there were also many I missed, primarily the colder days. Given that I only sail 5.3m and down, the number are not too bad. Braving some of the cold days, or being in town over Easter weekend would have had a few more marks on the calendar! Hopefully April will be a repeat; though with more warmer days than cold! I am ready to shed the 5/4mm fullsuit!

Today, April 4 is decision day for OBX off road vehicle (ORV) access. Will it happen? See the latest at Island Free Press The poll has closed regarding this issue and with 70% against while only 14% for, we can see where the majority of readership here stands. There were a few light wind kiteboarding/windsurfing Cove days this week, will there be any more?

I was standing on a Long Island beach yesterday, talking with a group of windsurfers when this topic came up. We're all pulling for continued access, of course! Good luck (and hopefull will sail with you guys in the next few weeks.)

I just read news about the settlement at islandfreepress.org (4/17/08). Sad to say, it looks like you're screwed. I'm praying you can someday reclaim the beaches, hopefully during negotiated rulemaking.
