Another Wave Sesh Score at Coquina Beach, Nags Head!

Well, it was not the surf/swell of Hurricane Bill, but conditions today at Coquina were quite fun! The outer bar was breaking with fun waist to head high peaks rolling in. South wind provided the juice for fairly clean side-off conditions!

Keith M, Olaf P, Caleb J, and I along with Atlantic first-time wavesailor Prescott M hit the surf at the north end of Coquina. The parking spot was not actually in the main Coquina Beach parking area, but rather about 150 yards north of the windmill. South wind combined with south swell is usually the right mix for fun at Coquina. We had it today, and for everyone out on the water, there were some tasty waves!

Oh yea, trunks along with a 1mm long sleeve top was all I wore out there!! 75 degree ocean water and air hovering in the mid 70s!! That's conditions here for late October Hatteras wavesailing!!

What a difference 30 degrees of shore angle make! Compared to George's Assateague photos (taken at the same time with similar wind and similar wave size) your pics look like Punta San Carlos. On the beach yesterday we were talking about how up north here we pretty much get one setup (take it or leave it) while down at the OBX you can fine tune the launch site for more favorable set ups. I won't go into the aspect of how your skills can make even junky waves look awesome.
